Por las Pampas 2007 Special-Newssection (FIA Cross Country Worldcup)

This is the single-news section of the special of the Por las Pampas Patagonia Atacama Rally 2007, 3rd round of the FIA Worldcup for Cross Country Rallys. To see all news please use the link under the article or navigate with the left main-navigation.

Por las Pampas: Terranova and Casteu were the fastest of the day

Orlando Terranova became the surprise of the day when he completed the special with a 33m.41s. time, a mere five seconds faster than Luc Alphand (Mitsubishi Montero Evo), who came in second in the slective, but still maintains a comfortable lead in the overall.

"It was a great satisfaction to win the stage. Today’s special was short but difficult and we are very happy because everything went well for us. Tomorrow the dunes will begin and we hope to be able to follow with this pace ", said the Argentinean.

On the other hand, Alphand also was satisfied since, in spite of not obtaining the best time of the stage, he could continue increasing his advantage in the overall on José Luis Monterde (Nissan Navara), who finished behind Paulo Nobre (BMW X3).

Alphand dominates the overall classification with an accumulated time of 11h.25m.28s., 58m.34s. in front of Monterde, while the third place goes to Orlando Terranova, who has a 1h.45m.59s. gap to the leader.

The next objective of the rally is the La Serena

Tomorrow, the caravan will leave Viña del Mar to arrive at La Serena, after covering 438 kilometers, only 31 of which will be timed. It is going to be a very short but very complicated stage since it will cross a zone of dunes that can cause bad moments even for the best drivers.
