Private British Offroad Rescue-Service renamed

A Rescue-service launched by a group of British Land Rover enthusiasts has been a new name. "North East Discovery Search and Rescue (Nedsar)" is now known as "4x4 Response North East". The non-profit organisation supports the emergency services, public bodies and other nationally-recognised groups in the region. Its members, including some from South Tyneside, turn out in any weather, on any terrain, at any time of the year. "All our members give their time freely to attend training and respond to requests of assistance" said Chairman Geoff Gordon.

The group covers from the Scottish border to North Yorkshire and across to Haltwhistle. Its new name reflects the fact it has joined the 4x4 Response Network, which covers almost all of the UK.

The group received a grant from "The Scarman Trust for Community Champions" to help with graphics and identification for its vehicles. It has also received almost £5,000 from the National Lottery's Awards to buy equipment, such as first aid kits and all weather blankets.
