Rainforest Challenge: Challenge closes with Prize Giving Ceremony.

On Sunday the Rainforest Challenge 2008 was officially closed with a big prize giving ceremony held in Kuala Terengganu. All the participants were out of the jungle again by that time and everyone was looking forward to the first night of sleep in normal beds again. After heading for the Twilight Zone into the jungle the trophy convoy separated. While the competitors were going directly deeper into the green the rest of the organization and support cars were going back out again to set up a camp at the location were everyone was supposed to come out of the Twilight Zone again.

However after that camp had been set up on the following day all competitors were already backtracking on the same route that they had gone in as after about 8 kilometers the track became impassable. After one more day of waiting everyone was together again at the new camp. On the way the usual smaller and bigger obstacles had to be passed, rivers to be crossed and bridges to be built. After dozens of cars had worn down difficult points of the track and rain was pouring down it was a challenge to get out on the same route again. In the new camp three special stages were set up and driven on the following day just shortly before the trophy was finally leaving the jungle for this year.

As a result of the numerous waiting days on the competitive side this year was certainly one of the weaker ones in the RFC history. Due to the circumstances after the prologue only 5 special stages were driven in the jungle. Consequently numerous participants were slightly dissatisfied about the intensity of the event's competitive part in this year. Rod B. Caldwell from Thailand summarizes it with his statement "Or cars are all ok, we had lots of fun and it was a great adventure but we should have had more special stages."

After this short update in the following days we will bring you the full story of the events in detail and all the bigger and smaller details surrounding it followed by our editor’s comment.
