Rainforest Challenge: Trophy in Malaysia about to start.

The Rainforest Challenge 2008 was officially started on Thursday evening with a big event briefing held in a beautiful tourist hotel in Kijal close to the sea. Participants from all over the world from countries like Denmark, Sri Lanka, Indonesia, Poland, New Zealand, Russia, Austria, Australia, USA, Thailand, UK, Malaysia, Hongkong are participating in the jungle event.

After a big official flagoff the drivers and co-drivers will start into the prologue sections on Friday. The prologue will last until Saturday evening and is usually crowded with spectators. After the prologue the convoy will head off into the jungle. Concerning the weather everyone maintains a cautious look after the events from 2007. In the last year's RFC the whole trophy was stuck at the deepest part in the jungle after it started raining furiously.

Some press and organization cars were even meter deep submerged in rivers that had risen due to the downpour. Only several weeks later the organization managed to get all cars back out of the jungle again after the waters had dropped again.

This year in Kuala Lumpur the weather so far has been nice and sunny with a few intense showers in between. Though this situation varies greatly with geographical differences. In the north were the trophy is heading to some severe flooding has been reported in the recent days. At this moment it is still too early for further weather predictions.

The participants are all eager to start into the event. In total 38 teams will be competing with a convoy size of almost 100 cars for the entire event. The biggest group of foreign vehicles comes from Poland with 9 cars and 2 ATVs. "We surely did some promotion but basically it just happened." said Marek Janaszkiewicz a Polish participant who has been competing together with his wife Agnieszka several times in a row now. "Several of our friends always wanted to come but there used to be small obstacles. Now everything fit into each other perfectly and we got a large group of friends together. This is great opportunities for us to show our driving skills" states Marek.

The group brought even more interested observers from Poland to the Malaysian jungle such as Albert Grysczuk a well known winner of the Dresden Breslau rally who prepared the vehicle of Marek and Agnieszka. Everyone of the group surely will be experiencing their very own adventures over the next days.
