 | Red Bull Sea to Sky: Hottest hard Enduro event in fall 2011 in Kemer Turkey.
|
Xventure, the organizers of the world`s toughest Hard-Enduro rallye, the Red Bull Romaniacs, have started final preparations for the Red Bull Sea to Sky, the Hottest Hard-Enduro Event in Fall 2011. In only some days from now, the Enduro mayhem will unleash in the mountains around Kemer, Turkey.
Riders have already started to signed in, Chris Birch (NZL) and Andreas Lettenbichler (GER) confirmed participation for the October 7.-9./2011 event which is already considered one of the Hard-Enduro highlights of the 2nd half of 2011! With Jonny Walker, there will also be pressure on the established Pro-riders from one of the hot & coming young guns.
And the concept of the Red Bull Sea to Sky is certainly an attractive one: Because where else could competitors race at the beach, in the forest and on a rocky mountain all within one weekend?
This package is spiced with the flair of a tourist resort, the use of a cable car for transportation and a holiday and entertainment package for teams and families and of course the expectation of great weather conditions. Needless to say that riders will find the same professional execution and safety, as they know it from the Red Bull Romaniacs.
The race is composed of three parts: dunes at the beach, single trails in the forest and rock-climbing on the mountain. It spans an altitude-delta of over 2300 meters. The "Beach Race" on Saturday, October 8th, kicks off the morning with a mass start and leads along the coastline in front of the Hotels of Kemer village in typical MotoCross style.
The result of the Beach Race decides the starting order for the next race, the "Forest time trial", also on Saturday. This stage leads riders through "breathtaking" single-trails, spectacular mountain roads and of course forest into the mountains around Kemer.
The result of the "Forest time trial" determines the starting row of the "Olympus mountain race" on Sunday. This race will lead away from the beach all the way up to mountain Olympus (Tahtali 2.365 m).
The track starts in a wide, dry riverbed for 8 km followed by an approximately 40 km forest section of single trails, wood working trails and goat trails. The terrain will continuously get more difficult with increasing altitude.
As the track passes the tree line at an elevation of approximately 1900 meters, the bike tires will have contact to rock surfaces only. The finish at the peak is accessible for fans and spectators by cable car, which is also the transportation of choice, back down for the finishers.
Several visits by riders and organizers have already confirmed the potential of the location: Red Bull Romaniacs founder and organizer Martin "Frejn" Freinademetz: "The mountains around Kemer are very promising, the local Enduro club is extremely motivated, the authorities are supporting Enduro like other cities support football and with a long term partner like Red Bull we expect a great future for this race."
Track manager Klaus Soerensen: "It is quite easy to create a tough and spectacular race here - and we will hard-rock our participants ;-)."
With the given meanness of our track managers and the perfect Enduro countryside (Endurado II) it is quite natural that we expect only 30% or less of the competitors to make it to the top of the mountain.
Those who will arrive within the maximum riding time will be awarded with a Red Bull Sea to Sky Gold medal. Those competitors that are able to make it all the way up to the tree line at an elevation of about 1.900 m will be awarded with a Silver medal, and those competitors that make it through the river section and the first sections of the forest will receive a Bronze medal at the Sunday evening riders beach party. Those who don¹t get any medal, will be sent practicing for next year`s Red Bull Sea to Sky.
Kemer is located in South Turkey at the Mediterranean Sea 50 km south west of Antalya. Kemer is a well-known tourist destination with over 500.000 hotel beds. The area around Kemer has a strong historic background going far before Christ. Besides relaxing on beach or hotel pools there are plenty sightseeing possibilities but the area offers also all kind of water and mountain sport activities.
The first Sea to Sky event was held in 2010, organized by the local Kemer Enduro club. The Kemer Enduro Club has many years of experience in organizing national Turkey Enduro competitions. Now energized by Red Bull & Xventure, this event is going to reach the next level! The race is likely to become part of the World Extreme Enduro Championship (WXEC) in the near future.
Antalya has a busy airport with many direct connection flights within Europe and several charter flight connections. There are several connecting flights per day via Istanbul and Ankara. If participants travel by plane they may either rent a bike in Turkey or sent their bike by forwarder.
Another alternative is a privately organized bike transport. We are working on a bike transport from Spain to Turkey and another one from northern Germany to Turkey. If riders decide to travel by car and bring their bike, they should expect a travel of 1 1/2 days from central Europe to Kemer.
