 | SA-Dakar 2011: Jonah Street and GYTR team up to tackle 2011 Dakar Rally
|
American Dakar Rally hopeful Jonah Street has teamed up with GYTR (Genuine Yamaha Technology & Racing) and Yamaha to take on the world's finest at the 2011 South America Dakar Rally from January 1-16, 2011.
An avid offroad rider Jonah first tackled Dakar in 2006, and immediately made his presence known by finishing on the podium at a few of the late stages. When he returned in 2007 he's was running fourth overall when an engine failure forced him to retire.
In 2008 the promoters had to cancel Dakar amidst security fears. In 2009 Jonah did something only four other American's have done in Dakar history, he won a stage. A wrist injury forced him to withdraw a few stages later. In 2010 Jonah came back and finished a respectable seventh overall.
For 2011 he has set his sights much higher. Working with Yamaha Jonah will be competing at this year's Dakar Rally aboard a 2011 WR450F. In his first ride aboard this bike Jonah decimated his competition at the Rally Mongolia winning by over 3 hours.
Jonah is naturally thrilled about the possibilities of this new relationship. "It is very exciting to be apart of the Yamaha family with all of their experience in Dakar. Getting to race the most proven 450 in the world is going to be great. I am looking forward to a long relationship with Yamaha and proud to represent them on the world stage at the Dakar rally".
