Just days until the start of the 2011 South America Dakar Rally, Robby Gordon and Team Hummer are getting ready to head south to Argentina. The team will be field two race vehicles, both sponsored by "Speed Energy Drink". A formal announcement regarding the second Hummer entry will follow early next week.
But Gordon is also expert in Media. So on his Fan-website [ www.planetrobby.com ] he startet a small contest: "Who will be the driver of Hummer No. 327"?
Robby Gordon will be participating in his seventh Dakar Rally and piloting one of the Hummer. Gordon will depend on his navigator, Kellon Walsh, to maneuver through the ever changing terrain of the cross country race. He knows how to win in the rally, becoming the first American to ever win a stage.
"To win a stage of the event was great, but to be the first American to win the Dakar Rally would mean so much more," says Gordon. "With experience also comes the understanding that you have to beat the rally before you can beat your competitors."
In mid-December, the cars are loaded in a transporter and make their way to Miami, Florida where they are shipped via airfreight to South America. The team optimizes every hour working on these cars to ensure that every detail is complete. "I couldn't be more proud of my guys for the effort and dedication they put into the preparation of the vehicles for the rally this year," says Gordon. "Being prepared is half the battle."
