 | SA-Dakar 2012: Overdrive Belgium from Nissan to Toyota - and VW Amarok.
|
The Belgian rally-raid manufacturer "Overdrive" is especially famous for their Nissan Navara T1 Rallyraid cars, especially in cooperation with Nissan South Africa. After Nissan SA stopped the offroad motorsport engagement, parts of the former Nissan-crew switched to Toyota - and also Overdrive does. Like with Nissan, Overdrive is now the official Partner for Toyota South Africa.
But not only this. For the Dakar 2012, the Belgian crew will also start with two Volkswagen Amarok Pickup T1. "We will have not less than six cars - four Toyota crews and two in Volkswagen - to give a great fight during the competition" Overdrive reported.
The two Volkswagen Amarok pickups will be driven by the Russian crew Leonid Ogorodnikov and Vladimir Dimitriev and the biggest Volkswagen-retailer in Argentina, Adrian Yacopini and Alfredo Jeanisch. Next to two own Toyota´s, Overdrive also become the logistic manager for the official Toyota Imperial Team with Giniel de Villiers / Dirk Von Zitzewitz and Duncan Vos / Robert Howie.
The team is composed by 59 people, two race trucks T4, three assistance trucks T5 "Toyota", two assistance trucks T5 "Volkswagen", six cars for the team and two press cars. The last two T5-Trucks will also have the mission of assisting clients that run with previous Overdrive Nissan vehicles, with Brazilian driver Jean de Azevedo among them, who has all the chances to be well positioned at the finish of the Dakar 2012.
Overdrive Racing began in 2006 supplying tubular chassis equipped with engine, gear box and transmission over which they could build a car body on demand. Then, twelve pickups built in the Belgian factory were sold throughout the world and keep showing off the know-how of OVERDRIVE RACING in rally-raid races.
