 | SA-Dakar: Kamaz and Firdaus Kabirov takes the truck-lead after Stage 2.
|
The Russian Firdaus Kabirov (Kamaz) has obtained the best time, winning his 34th stage victory on the Dakar and his 1st in 2011 after the second stage on Monday. The winner in 2009 took advantage of a slip-up by the "Tsar" Chagin in the last few kilometres to grab victory, 1:20 minutes ahead of Czech Alès Loprais (Tatra), and 5:09 in front of German Franz Echter (MAN).
In the lead until CP3 after 267 km of the special, Vladimir Chagin (Kamaz) eventually lost 6:14, and now is merely 3rd in the general standings, 22? behind the new leader Kabirov.
The reason wy Kabirov was delayed was due to braking problems. This stage was particulary rapid with a lot of downhill braking. There has been a lot of overheating in the brakes in particular the left back wheen, close to the finish it has exploded and cought fire. All the fire extinguishers were used but could not put the fire out. Luckely some nearby locals brought some large containers with water. Smetimes the simplest solutions are the best.
