 | SA-Dakar Rally: First Kamaz victory - Karginov "Sometimes it's easy to go".
|
"A optimistic day for the team" - short answer after Kamaz´ first stagewin in the 2012 Dakar Rally after SS10 to Arica. The Kasach Ardavichus and the Russian Karginov made a one-two after 377 kms of racing and profited from navigation mistakes of some De Rooy members. "Passions and nervous atmosphere in the trucks category causes athletes to make mistakes" the Kamaz team told after the stage.
Karginov was second on the stage, only 2:18 minutes ahead of Arthur Ardavichus in the "Altana" Kamaz. "Sometimes it's easy to go" said Karginov after the stage.
"Today was a day like this. Even one failure with the engine, which we fixed. Something perforated the fuel pump and we lost diesel. But we only lost some minutes. Today's sands was probably the most difficult during the rally. But our trucks were good in the desert, we just need some more experience in the sand" the Russian told.
"Sometimes it was scary" reported Arthur Ardavichus. "Especially in the high dunes it was a hard battle with Hans Stacey in the Iveco. With Stacey we have no contact, I don´t know his targets, I never looked in his eyes. Distance separates us, I'm not trying to chase after him - but we saw him anytime, at any speed. Later we stuck in the soft sand, lost some minutes. Our mechanic shouted one time, because of the steep dune downhills. But it was a fight as we like it."
