The Castellón Joan Barreda (Husqvarna) was the first this morning to start in the stage after the victory on wednesday. But because a mistake by taking a wrong turn at the beginning of the stage, he delayed the classification of the day.
From that time, he stucked to the wheel of the top two in the Dakar, Coma and Despres - and started a big comeback, that took him on the 5th position of the day after 534 timed kms.
Barreda is now in 11th position overall, with options to fight to get into the "Top 10" of Dakar.
"I've been a spectator of luxury in the beautiful struggle between Marc and Cyril. They are two great drivers and go very quickly" said Barreda. "I have not taken risks, I rode quiet and in order to avoid making serious mistakes."
He continued: "At the beginning of the stage, I was a bit confused and lost precious time. Therefore I have crept out other drivers further back, but everything has gone well, have gone back and I'm happy with the result. The Husqvarna is the level of the best bikes in his first Dakar and it gives me great confidence to ride safely for so many miles. The team has done a great job."
The other component of the Husqvarna Speedbrain team Jose Manuel Pellicer continues to reap good results and today I managed to finish in position 16, allowing it to stand on 19 overall.
Tomorrow second day in Peru, Arequipa and Nasca stage between 245 km to the clock, a journey that will pass through a region admirably with enigmatic figures on the floor built over 2000 years.
