|SA-Dakar Rally: Way to Peru marks good day for the three Dessoude crews.|
The final straight before reaching the ultimate goal, Lima! For the Team Dessoude crews, the arrival in Peru has been marked by some good results. The best performance of the day came from Frenchman Thierry Magnaldi, who once again showed all his skills to push his Oryx Buggy to 16th position in the special stage; he is now 15th overall.
Zhou Jihong was not to be outdone. Starting from 34th position, the Chinese driver finished 19th on thursday. But the award for courage goes to Isabelle Patissier who, after her steering problems on wednesday’s stage, started from 73rd place this morning. All the strength of a true champion allowed her to put in an amazing performance and to climb up the field, finishing 31st.
Thierry MagnaldiThis was a big day, very tiring with fesh-fesh and sand" said Thierry Magnaldi. "While we were the first buggy, we got stuck going down a dune, as many others did, and Chabot took advantage to get by. It was very close!"
He added: "The four-wheel-drive cars had dug some enormous ruts, which made things far from easy for us. We took around twenty minutes to get out of the trap, while other cars were only just avoiding us. The next two days will not be easy, but our aim is to gain a few more places in the two-wheel-drive category, and most importantly, to finish the rally in a much better way than we started !»
A fine day today for the Proto 05. The Chinese Dessoude rookies Zhou Jihong and Liao Min followed the route exactly today, without taking any risks. A tactic which paid off, as from starting in 34th position, they finished the special stage in 19th. A fine performance which shows, two stages from the end, men and machine are withstanding the pace.
"We were very careful, because we knew that the slightest issue could cost us dear. Friday is going to be very difficult, so we didn’t want any unnecessary risks. We are determined to see Lima in two days time."
The problems suffered by Isabelle Patissier and Thierry Delli Zotti wednesday had sent them down to the 73rd place in the special stage between Iquique and Arica.
Starting so far back this morning, and with such a handicap in terms of overtaking in a cloud of fesh-fesh, the crew’s performance should be noted. Finishing 31st, despite some delicate sections to be crossed, the Oryx Buggy did very well. However, Isabelle knows that tomorrow will be decisive before the finish straight towards Lima.
