|Sardegna Rally Race: Cyril Despres - "Not such a good day on Monday"|
Monday morning’s special went to Juan Pedrero ahead of Marc Coma with Cyril Despres third. Then in the afternoon the three leaders all lost time with Coma finishing 6th, Cyril 11th and Botturi 15th. Finally Coma increased his overall lead on Cyril to 05:03 minutes with Botturi in third at 07:37.
“Not such a good day today" said Cyril Despres. "There was a mix up in the time allowed at the assistance point and I had to rush to get to the start of the second special. Apparently I wasn’t the only one to be surprised by my early start time as I came across an organisers’ car just after leaving the control. Perhaps inevitably all that had a bit of a negative impact on my concentration and shortly after I got lost on the road book and took 2 or 3 minutes to get back on the right track."
"Obviously I’m disappointed to have the lost a few minutes. At the same time you have to keep things in perspective. I’m fully aware that organising this kind of race is far from a simple affair, yet despite all the complications, today they gave us 120 kilometres of amazing tracks and a road book of unparalleled precision to go with it."
"You could be riding along in metre high grass and the note told you to go right in 50 metres to pick up a track. You rode the 50 metres as instructed, barely believing you would find the track you were looking for and there it was. It is an exercise that takes a lot of concentration but one that is nevertheless strangely satisfying!”
