Beside the navigator Youssef Haddad, driver is the first in the cars category. Klever Kolberg finishes second and Paulo "Palmeirinha" Nobre is the third. There were 4486 km of challenges, adventures, lots of dust and adrenaline.
The start in Goiânia (GO) had 60 cars and 120 competitors. Of these, only one would be the champion of the 18th Sertões International Rally. It was left to the experienced Gilherme "Guiga" Spinelli, along with his navigator Youssef Haddad (Mitsubishi Triton RS) the honor of being crowned champion of the 2010 edition of the world’s second largest off-road race.
The winner of Sertões 2003 and 2004 returned after missing two editions. After a bitter dispute with Klever Kolberg over the ten days of the event, he arrived in Fortaleza (CE), this Friday (August 20) as the champion. "It's great to win the Sertões International Rally. The credit belongs to the entire team and Youssef Haddad, who was an excellent navigator, and also the car. The Triton RS demonstrated it is very sturdy car and the equipment has to be perfect to win a such a long and hard race like Sertões," said Guiga.
Like most of the competitors of the four categories of the rally, the driver also highlighted the marathon stage, when the contestants cannot receive support from the team after the special, one of the most difficult of the whole race. "Sertões is a very difficult rally, but I would like to highlight the marathon stage and the penultimate day of the race as the key points this year. Sertões is a huge challenge and I am very happy to overcome all the hardship," he celebrated.
Second place this year and first in the ethanol sub-category, Klever Kolberg debuted a new partnership with Flavio França (Mitsubishi Proton) and was keen to praise the work of the team as a whole. "Thanks a lot. If not for the problem of the wheel, which stopped me a few times to change tires, we might have won overall. But I must say that this edition of the Rally exceeded all my expectations, like the car we had. I would like to thank ProMacchina for having prepared this great car, nice to drive and very fast. The whole team did a great job and was bold to take the initiative. Too bad we could only get a taste of being in leadership, not confirmed in the end. Anyway, it was an honor to drive this car for this team," he said.
Considered by drivers as one of the best cars in Sertões, the BMW X3 was led to the third place by Paulo Nobre, aka Palmeirinha, and navigated by Luiz Carlos Palu. The Palmeiras fan Paulo made an assessment of the Sertões Rally 2010. "Of all the years that I participated in Sertões, this was the lightest. The marathon stage that normally defines the winners was peace and love. We have had some penalties, thus we were far behind and we recovered. From all the stages, the penultimate was the hardest, but the car is very good and we managed to go very well," he said.
The 18th edition of Sertões International Rally fulfilled its promise and presented their competitors one of the hardest routes in its history. In the hard journey of 4486 kilometers through six states - Goiás, Minas Gerais, Tocantins, Maranhão, Piauí and Ceará - within ten days of race, many vehicles have faced difficulties and did not get to Fortaleza on Friday. Of the 155 that started - 70 bikes, 60 cars, 15 trucks and 10 quads - on August 11, 112 have arrived at the Beach Park - 47 bikes, 45 cars, 12 quads and eight trucks.
