 | Sertoes Rally: Twice Sertões Rally champion Guilherme Spinelli is back.
|
After two years entirely devoted to competitions abroad, driver Guilherme Spinelli returned to the Brazilian races in 2010 and is now preparing for the biggest challenge of the national schedule during the 18th edition of the Sertões International Rally, taking place between August 10th and 21st, starting in Goiânia (GO), and finish in Fortaleza (CE). Twice winners of the event (2003-04), Guiga will compete in the Old Boys team and will partner with navigator Youssef Haddad.
In the first race they competed together (in the opening of the Sertões Series season) the duo were crowned champions. "It's great rerunning to Sertões Rally, I am very happy to compete alongside the best riders and best teams in the country. I’ve spent nine years participating in the Sertões, which is a difficult rally, with beautiful scenery, fantastic places, and of course, hart and varied special tests," said Spinelli.
Spinelli will race with a Mitsubishi Triton SR, car adapted to dispute the race. "The RS Triton is a tested and approved vehicle for the Mitsubishi Cup, but we will make some modifications so that it can correspond to the size and specifications of Sertões, which is the second largest off-road rally in the world. Due to these changes, we will call it Triton SR from now on," said Guiga, best Brazilian in the latest edition of the Dakar Rally, the largest off-road race in the world.
"Racing with Youssef will be important because he is one of the engineers who participated in the development of Triton and can certainly help a lot during the race, besides being an excellent navigator," he added.
In the year Sertões celebrates its 18th anniversary, the route will have 4593 km, with 95% new route and a record 54% of the course will be timed sections. This year the race will cross six Brazilian states - Goiás, Minas Gerais, Tocantins, Maranhão, Piauí and Ceará - and four regions of the country.
