 | Silk Way 2010: Next "Silk Road" off-road rally will not reach Ashgabat.

 In 2010, the route of the "Silk Road" rally of Dakar Series will run in the territory of Russia - from St. Petersburg through Astrakhan to Sochi, the Russian Magazine [ turkmenistan.ru ] news-agency Interfax reports with reference to the press service of the rally organizing committee.
"The caravan will go down the Volga River to Astrakhan, and thence it will to go to Sochi via Kalmykia," said Eugenia Bykova, press secretary of the Kamaz-Master team, an organizer of the race from the Russian side. "So, we will have sands," she added. She said this time the length of the route can stretch to some 5 thousand kilometers.
According to the organizers, the tentative dates of the rally are 9-19 September 2010. The exact route of the rally and its length will be determined later.
It should be recalled that in 2009 the international rally "Silk Road" of Dakar Series was held from 5 to 13 September in the territory of Russia, Kazakhstan and Turkmenistan. The length of the route from Kazan to Ashgabat was about 4300 kilometers, of which about 2800 ran through special areas. The race was attended by 51 crews in the car competition and 20 in the truck competition.
The crew of Firdaus Kabirov from the Kamaz-Master team won the truck competition, followed by Gerard De Rooy on Iveco and Ales Loprais on Tatra. The first three places in the passenger car competition went to pilots of Volkswagen factory team - Spaniard Carlos Sainz, American Mark Miller and Frenchman Giniel De Villiers, who had a convincing lead throughout the entire marathon. Russian pilot Ruslan Misikov on Nissan was best after Volkswagen.
