|Silk Way Rally: 5, 11, 13 ... Winning combination for Team Dessoude.|
The final stage of the "Silk Way Rally" in Russia was not a cakewalk although it was only 87 km long, it was enough to get a few scares. The three cars entered by the French team Dessoude reached the finish safely at the 5th, 11th and 13th places overall.
Christian Lavieille and Jean-Michel Polato finish in the Top 5 while Yves Tartarin and Matthew Bouthet are close to the Top 10, taking 11th place. For Frederic Chavigny and Jean-Paul Forthomme after a daunting first leg, the Franco-Belgian duo takes a great 13th place on the 5th edition of the Silk Way Rally. During last stage, Christian Lavieille and Jean-Michel Polato got a fright a few kilometers from the finish.
"We were at a good pace, at third place on the intermediate points, until a big pack of sand with a hairpin turn and a ditch. We had to deflate and take the plates, we lost around three minutes but it was not dramatic and it has not changed anything overall. In this last section, the navigation was tough, as it was every day" the Frenchman said.
"The Silk Way is a real rally raid with long stages and navigation. I must pay tribute to Jean-Michel, who did a great job during all the week. On this event, the co-driver has a key role. Results are positive for us. After the small problem of the first day, we had the proper reaction. The car was reliable and efficient and the team did a good job. The Juke gained performance and is now much more stable. Congratulations to the team for all the work done."
For Frédéric Chavigny and Jean-Paul Forthomme, the rally finished much better than it started. Despite two hours lost on the first day, the crew was always positive and finished at 13th place overall.
"This race is an excellent preparation for the Dakar" said Chavigny. "The Atacama has completely changed since my last race and it also changed my approach to the sand dunes. With the new engine, I have no stress to cross them. I feel much more confortable. This car has a good potential and I am confident for the future. Although the race started badly for us, we came back quickly in the match. This rally is beautiful and I'm happy with our race."
At the 11th place overall, Yves Tartarin and Matthew Bouthet were brilliant during the week, servicing themselves their Buggy with the help of the Dessoude structure. "This morning, it was a short stage but intense and like yesterday we started quietly and then went crescendo. We are very pleased with this rally and this result" he reported.
"Doing the mechanical work every evening after long stages was not always easy but I want to thank the Dessoude team for their support, without them we would not be here. The first day, everyone was disappointed but then, everyone lifted up the head and fought to the end. It is a good spirit."
"For the Dakar, I have not yet decided which car I will enter but like everyone else, the budget is the key, so we'll see. Before the Dakar, the next race will be the 24 Hours TT of Paris where we could catch the title for the French Cross-Country championship (Yves is currently second). The crew should be great: Gilles Billaut, my team-mate on the championship, Frederic Chavigny and Jean-Pierre Strugo... A four of us, we record 50 Dakars! See you in September!"
The conclusion comes to Géraldine Deshayes, André Dessoude’s right arm. Missing the finish, the "Wizard of St. Lô" had to come back to France for some professional obligations linked to the "Tour de France".
"For sure, we had some problems on the first stage but then after we found the proper pace and did not have any technical intervention on cars, whether on the track or at the bivouac. We are satisfied with the improvements on the Atacama and the Juke. All work done before the race has been very positive. The three cars are entered are at the finish and our challenge is successful," said André Dessoude.
"This race is a true test session where great emphasis is given to the true values of the rally raid, endurance, with long stages, and navigation. Another satisfaction came from the relaxed atmosphere in the team, between crews and technical staff. A technical team, however small, with two mechanics and an engineer but everything went perfectly. We are loyal to the Silk Way Rally since the first edition but I think 2013 was the most successful. We will return for sure. This race became a key part of our schedule."
