Silk Way Rally: Christian Lavieille strengthens his 5th place.

For Team Dessoude and more particularly Christian Lavieille, the second true day of racing did not bring any real problems. The driver from the Var, still lying in 5th position overall behind the factory VW cars, is running well, and has a lead of around six minutes over the Buggy driven by Mathias Kahle.

The battle for fifth place is quite intense, and Christian Lavieille is resisting the pressure from Kahle, Berkut’s Pajero Evo and Errandonea’s buggy. Monday’s two special stages were more about navigation, with plenty of changes of direction, more than on the difficulties of the terrain.

"Everything went well" told Christian Lavieille. "On the two timed stages, there were countless changes of direction. A real maze among the trails. We made one small mistake which lost us around two minutes. It’s a shame, it would have been a good opportunity to open up the gap between us and the buggy. This route is more like a Baja and used the brakes a lot. In order not to overheat, I slowed the pace towards the end to finish in a good condition. A fine bit of driving nevertheless. But we have to be careful, because the serious business starts tomorrow. This is the last of the short stages, and tomorrow we will face 580 km of timed stages. We’ll be back in the traditional rally raid format! Between Uralsk and Beyneu, the leg has been announced as being the Silk Way’s major stage. It will be long and certainly full of difficulties - watch this space."

As for the other Team Dessoude vehicles, they were cautious and careful on Monday although Serguey Swiridenko had quite a fright. On the 5th kilometer of the timed stage, Serguey’s Patrol rolled. Luckily, although shaken, there was no serious damage! As for the duo of Chavigny and Singery, they are preparing for tomorrow’s long stage.
