Silk Way Rally: Hungarian Opel Antara Team to start at ASO-Rally.

The unit of the Hungarian Opel Rally Raid Team consisting of Balazs Szalay and Laszlo Bunkoczi decided to make a trial on the Silk Way Rally starting on 5 September which is the second greatest cross country rally competition of the year after the Dakar Rally. The field must complete altogether 4.500 km during the 8 days of the challenge of which 3.200 km are the selectives.

The start is hosted by the capital of Tatarstan, Kazany that is noted as one of the federal republics of the Russian Federation. Afterwards they cross the land of Kazahstan, that is considered to be the 9th greatest country of the world with its 2,7 million km2 territory. These roads are mainly characterized as sharp and rocky but after passing the Turkmen border the Karakum desert has to be overcome that covers about 80% of the whole country and only 5% of it is covered by water.

The Silk Way ends on 13 September in Asgabat, which is the capital of Turkmenistan. The unusual route was not found to be enchanting enough by the organizing committee of the A.S.O so to inject fresh blood into the world of cross country rallying money prize was awarded for the first time for the entrees.

To be more exact, those amateurs who finish up the race and tore the imaginable ribbon of the finish will be offered 5.000 USD. Besides this, certainly the first three placings of the race will return with a reward too. The organizers are going to distribute 300.000 USD in total among the amateur competitors. Szalay and his co has never raced on these lands before, but they will surely favor this kind of terrain, as they will not be less exposed to the elements as they were in Africa before.
