 | Silk Way Rally: X-raid´s Peterhansel and Novitskiy confirmed as drivers.
|
The X-raid team has confirmed that it will field at least two cars in the 2011 Silk Way Rally from Moscow to Sochi in July. The French duo of Stephane Peterhansel/Jean-Paul Cottret and the Russian/German duo of Leonid Novitskiy/Andreas Schulz are already confirmed as two driver pairings.
Peterhansel will drive the Mini All4 Racing, while Novitskiy will tackle his home race in a BMW X3CC. The pilots will tackle seven stages and 4,000 kilometres of special stages over grassland, sand dunes and mountains.
"Because of the different terrain, the Silk Way Rally gives us a very good test ground for the Dakar in January 2012," said team boss Sven Quandt. "As the Silk Way takes place in July, we can follow the collected information and data yet to be implemented. It will also offer Leonid a special experience in a rally in front of his countrymen."
The Silk Way Rally will run as a third edition in 2011. Organized by the ASO - the organiser of the Dakar Rally - the rally ran for the first two years in September and will take place in July this year.
The route will take participants from Moscow to Sochi, the venue of the Olympic Winter Games 2014. The start of the rally will be in Red Square in the heart of Moscow. From there the route goes to Volgograd, on to the Caspian Sea and further to the finish city of Sochi.
