 | TORC 2013: Rob Kinner Racing looks to move up the Podium in 2013
|
The 2013 edition of the Traxxas TORC Series presented by AMSOIL saw Rob Kinner, the veteran Single Buggy competitor, looking to dial in a brand new race car. Even with very little preseason testing, the Walk to End Alzheimer's / Fat Performance / Victory Sign single-seater finished the championship in third place.
The new chassis designed with Midwest-style short-course racing in mind, included a slightly shorter wheelbase and a Mike Brue designed suspension that included running King Shocks. Ultimately the new philosophy in the chassis design will allow for improved momentum through the tight corners in stadium tracks like Chicagoland and Red Bud and allow for quicker acceleration at places like Crandon and Bark River.
"With a new car, basically a chassis I designed and built, we definitely had our challenges this past year," remarked Rob Kinner. "The car isn't totally sorted out, but we liked our progress as we continued through the season. With our schedule not starting until mid-June, we will have some time to test before we begin racing for a championship."
Even when considering the 2012 race season was more of a developmental season than a charge at a championship, Kinner finished the season with five Top-5 finishes including a third place at Spring Crandon, to finish third overall in the 2012 TORC Single Buggy Championship for the second year in a row.
This past weekend, Kinner had his racer on display at the annual MORR Sportsman Banquet at the Paper Valley Radisson in Appleton, WI. Along with the three hundred MORR banquet attendees, the #326 Single Buggy had several hundred other hotel guest stop by for a look thanks in part to two other large banquets in the convention center.
When the snow disappears and the ground thaws look for Rob Kinner to head to Crandon for a serious test session, but until then the search for marketing partners for the upcoming season is the priority.
