|TORC 2014: Dale Chestnut wins RD2 and leads TORC Classix Championship|
Dale Chestnut is looking for "one for the thumb" as he begins his quest for his fifth consecutive Classix championship. Each year the competition gets stronger and somehow the blue Ford Bronco prevails. If the opening weekend of the season in Bark River is an indication for the rest of the year, Chestnut knows there's a bull's eye on his back.
The 1.4 mile long all natural terrain Bark River layout is really tough on the Classix group of racers. The track is fast, but for the "restomod" racers of the off-road world, getting through the off-camber corners and made jumps can be a real challenge.
The first round of racing for the Classix division was a real battle between Dale Chestnut and Mike Mischler. It looked like Chestnut and his #613 Ford Bronco would take the win, but just after the mandatory caution lap, a suspension mount broke. Chestnut did whatever he could to stay in the lead, but heading into the final lap Mischler pass the pass to take the win with Chestnut holding on to second.
The Double D Trailer Sales & Service team went to work fabricating some new mounts immediately after the podium celebration. When the sun came up the morning the team was all set to get back on the top spot on the podium. Saturday's Round Two once again saw Chestnut take an early lead, but this time his eight lap run was flawless as he grabbed his first win of the season.
"You couldn't ask for a better race, "remarked Dale Chestnut. "Yesterday I could have pushed the truck and I might have won or I might have broken the front end and I might still be trying to put it back together. Our team likes to win, but we like championships even better."
