|TORC 2014: Scott Douglas wins TORC round 4 - the "Showdown in Charlotte".|
The "Showdown in Charlotte" really lived up to its name for Scott Douglas and the PRO-4x4 as competition was door to door all weekend. The improvements Douglas Motorsports made in the off-season really came through as the eleven-time off-road champion took the win during Saturday evening's eighteen lap feature.
The "TORC Series presented by Amsoil" returned to the Dirt Track at Charlotte Motor Speedway and once again Jeff Nordstrom created a challenging "Chunk of Baja" that kept the drivers "up on the wheel" and the fans on their feet all weekend long.
The Saturday action started with Douglas Motorsports qualifying second fastest, putting the white and black Amsoil truck in the second row of the starting grid along with fast qualifier Adrian Cenni. The Round 3 race of the TORC series saw Douglas as running as high as second place until a flat tire caused an unscheduled stop in the hot pits late in the race. The stop relegated the team to sixth place finish.
Overall, Scott Douglas was pleased with the performance of the truck, but realized he need to be slightly more aggressive during the first half of the race. After the usual between race prep, the team grooved up a new set of Toyo Tires and waited for Sunday evening's main event.
The final race on the TORC program was one to remember. Scott Douglas and Adrian Cenni started on the front row and immediately put on an incredible display of racing talent. The drivers went door to door, with both drivers taking over the lead several times throughout much of the race. Eventually Scott Douglas took command of the race as the Ford finished the race in first place, 2.2 seconds ahead of the field.
"It sure feels great to be on top of the podium," exclaimed Scott Douglas. "Our hard work in the off-season is paying off. In Primm we were fast qualifier and tonight we win Round 4."
"The hard work of my crew headed by Jason Schampers and Chris Hunt along with everyone on the team, Jay, Joe, Trevor, Gary and Jackie made this win possible," Douglas said after the race. "We will celebrate a little tonight, but we know we have to get back to work this week, ensuring we continue to improve our program."
The next race on the 2014 TORC Series presented by Amsoil is the "Throwdown in the U.P." June 14-15 in Bark River, Michigan.
