|TORC LB 2014: Stingle wins Round 8 - and wins Limited Buggy Challenge|
Greg Stingle and the #172 Light Buggy had a near perfect weekend on Crandon's short track during the second annual Forest County Potawatomi Off-Road Super Challenge Weekend. The veteran Light Buggy racer not only clinched the 2014 TORC Light Buggy title, but he was the victor of the Inaugural Quast Consulting & Testing Limited Buggy Challenge.
Rounds Seven and Eight of the TORC Sportsman Series were held on the one mile long Crandon short track. This put one hundred percent of the race track in front of the fans and put a new challenge for the competitors to conquer. The short track layout brought back the two wide rolling start as well.
Saturday's race saw Stingle in his familiar orange #172 Light Buggy start in row six of the starting grid. When racing began, the slick and muddy track saw several drives struggle to get traction. Stingle was one of those drivers. On the opening lap, the former class champion actually lost a couple of positions, but as the track dried out, Stingle began moving up the running order. After twelve laps of racing, the Sassy's Bar and Grill Buggy finished on the podium in third place.
Overnight, only a few adjustments were made as the team hoped for a slightly drier track for Sunday's race.
Once again Stingle started from the sixth row for Round Eight. This time when the green flag was waved, the #172 Light Buggy quickly charged through the field to handily take the team's sixth win of the season. The win also clinched the 2014 TORC Light Buggy Championship.
The weekend of racing had one more race on the schedule, the Quast Consulting & Testing Limited Buggy Challenge. A total of twenty-two Light Buggy and Single Buggy racers lined up for a ten lap sprint race for over $6000 in cash and prizes.
The race featured a land rush start beginning just before Turn One as the Light Buggy racers would have a twenty five second head start over the Single Buggy field. When the Light Buggy racers left the start, Stingle immediately grabbed the lead. The next ten laps, none of the other racers could run down the newly crowned class champion. Greg Stingle is the first winner of the Quast Testing & Consulting Limited Buggy Challenge.
"This weekend couldn't get much better," remarked Greg Stingle. "We won Round 8 and clinched the championship and then we took home the top prize in the challenge race. Having results like we did this weekend comes from the hard work we all put in at the shop as well as at the track."
"I have to thank Crandon for putting on this Sportsman weekend and all USAC crew that keep us safe on track, and every Light Buggy racer. My competitors are the ones that push my team to be the best that they can be. Again thanks to Quast Testing and Consulting for supporting the challenge race and all the fans that came out to watch us this weekend."
The next race for Greg Stingle is the Off-Road World Championships, August 29-31 in Crandon, Wisconsin.
