|TORC STC 2014: Marquardt continues Podium Streak at RD8 Summer Crandon|
Cory Marquardt and the #590 Chevy Stock Truck added to more trips to the podium during the Forest County Potawatomi Off-Road Super Challenge Weekend in Crandon, Wisconsin. The team fought some adversity, but the driver and crew never gave up as Marquardt Racing continues to the "TORC Stock Truck Championship".
The Sportsman weekend at Crandon saw a slightly different track than the racers were accustomed to. The one mile long short track was utilized for all class racing. This kept racers fully engaged all race long, and the spectators on their feet cheering the non-stop action on the track.
The action for the Stock Truck racers began with a twelve lap race combined with the Classix racers. As soon as the race start Marquardt lost third gear in the transmission. This really limited the top speed of the #890 Chevy Stock Truck. Somehow Cory kept the top three racers in sight and was able to catch up to them thanks to the mandatory caution lap midway through the race.
The second half of the race Marquardt was able to keep pace with the three truck running in front of the orange Chevy and waited to make his move on the final lap. In fact it was in the final two corners that saw Marquardt make a successful move for third place and coming to the flag he nearly made the pass for second place. Overnight Cory and his team replaced the transmission and torque converter hoping that he could return to his winning ways.
Sunday's Round 8 race saw the Stock Truck racers on the track without another group. In recent years, Stock Truck had been struggling the lack of competitors, but the last two seasons saw a resurgence in the class. USAC officials promised to have the Stock Truck class run on its own if at least ten entries would race every weekend. The group met the requirement and USAC put them on the race program as a standalone race.
The race itself saw Marquardt take his time weaving through traffic moving up to second place by the caution period. As the second half of the race began, Marquardt drove hard into the Polaris Gravel Pit Turn to take the lead. The #590 Chevy Stock Truck held the top spot all the way to the checkered flag for the team's fifth win of the season. So for during the eight rounds of racing in the Stock Truck Championship, Cory Marquardt has finished on the podium all eight times.
With just two rounds of racing remaining in the TORC Stock Truck Championship, Cory Marquardt leads the field by twenty-three points. The final race weekend of the season is the Off-Road World Championships on August 29-31 in Crandon, Wisconsin.
