Transiberico: Sainz in the Lead, Mitsubishi with problems in Portugal

| |
| After a great start, the two Mitsubishi’s of Luc Alphand and Nani Roma, arrived Idanha-a-Nova with many problems, and Carlos Sainz, who drove more carefully, achieved to arrive in the end of the second leg - Badajoz - still leading the Rali Vodafone Transibérico. Nani Roma started the trying to catch Carlos Sainz, who was opening the road, and so it was not the fastest in the track. His car was not handling well, so the Mitsubishi’s passed in front, after CP1, leading the Spanish VW and also in front of Carlos Sousa, who was trying hard to overtake some slow cars.
Colin McRae was also between the fastest, but a big brake problem, forced him to abandon, leaving the all fight between the VW and Mitsubishi guys, Roma was leading until almost the end of the stage, but after CP2, a gearbox problem making harder his driving and started to loose time, for the two Carlos. His team-mate had also power-steering problems and so Sainz kept his lead but for only
"8"!
Between the Portuguese "troops", even before the 2nd SS Miguel Barbosa abandoned with a wheel bearing broken, so all the "hopes" were based in Carlos Sousa - very fast in the two SS - as well as in Filipe Campos and Rui Sousa, but those two had also problems in the end; Campos had a puncture, and Sousa broke a wheel, so the best behind Sousa, was at the end, João Ramos, who was really very sick in the SS of the morning.
In the other categories remarks for the leading in T2, to Francesc Termens - even without two wheel transmission during several kilometres - Paulo Martins leads the Nissan Navara Challenge, and Mário Dinis Lucas, is the fastest between the TTMB. Tomorrow another two Special Stages held now in the Mora and Évora region, with 441,28 Km. Another great test for the "survivors".
