Transorientale: No Time-Trial on day 7 of the Russia-Asia Rally

Hans Stacey may not be in the lead right now, but he still represents an excellent third place. Yesterday, he battled with tyre problems during the trial, due to which he lost some valuable time.

As mentioned yesterday, Mekthiev’s team was cut out of the competition because of the crash they were involved in. Fortunately, we are able to report that - despite being hugely disappointed - the men are in a reasonably good condition. Johan van Gestel is already on his way back again to Holland. Yakov Mekthiev is currently still receiving treatment and will fly back to Moscow after that. Despite having spent many hours near the crashed truck, Igor Kozlov is fine and will probably also soon return to Russia.

The organisation has decided to cancel the second part of the marathon leg today. In other words, there will be no time trial today and the leading overall standings will remain as they are. The drivers will be covering a total distance of 692 km. After about 400 km, they will pass by Astana, the capital of Kazakhstan, which is currently celebrating its 10th anniversary.

Tomorrow, the drivers will be facing the longest trial of the rally. During the 446 (!) km between Karbushevka and Madeniyet, they will be mainly negotiating paths of mud and stone, crisscrossing in the vast plains. The navigators’ skills will again be seriously tested, while the last part of the course will include some very fast sections.
