Transsyberia Rally 2007: The countdown for the Asia-Rally is on.

The start of the Transsyberia 2007, probably the most difficult rally for close-to-series vehicles worldwide, is immanent. On August 3rd, 35 teams will undertake the cumbersome journey from Moscow, in front of the Basilica, to Ulaanbaatar. The Ural, the swampy Siberian low lands, the up to 12,139 feet high passes of the Altai Mountains, and the outskirts of the Gobi Desert are only a few of the obstacles the participants of the rally from the Russian to the Mongolian capital have to overcome.

The barely existent infra structure calls for numerous overnight accommodations in tents and the extensive renouncement of any kind of comfort, as well as some detours. In order to guarantee the fuel supply for the vehicles, the route had to be lengthened from 4,101 to 4417 miles.

The mechanics also have to be flexible. They are accompanying the rally participants during the Transsyberia on a separate, slightly less rough service route, where they can quickly help havarists en route, and undertake the vehicle maintenance in the evenings. They hadn’t even left German territory when the first truck failed due to the technology of different transportation means. A defect at the ferry from Sassnitz (Germany) to St. Petersburg (Russia) forced the service team to take a one week break, which almost resulted in the cancellation of the entire Transsyberia. The organizers got the 'all-clear' signal last minute: the ferry is running.

The transfer of the Transsyberia vehicle park, which, amongst others, includes 25 Porsche Cayenne S Transsyberia and two Suzuki Grand Vitara DDiS can therefor be completed according to plan.
