Transsyberia: Touratech and Argus realize Satellite-Tracking.

Over 7000 km across Sibirien and Mongolia sounds like a great challange - well, this is a real challange which you will not face every other day. Allmost 40 teams have registerd in 2007 for this rally which is organized by Schalber Events. Among other unique features, a brand new satellite tracking and emergency system which is a joint effort of Touratech and Argus Networks will increase the safety of the participants.

The unique feature of this system is the combination of 3 different satellite systems: While the standard GPS system is used for positioning, the locations of all vehicles are uploaded through the Inmarsat satellite system every 10 minutes. Finally the positions are transmitted through an Iridium data modem directly to the rallye organizers in the field and are plotted in real time using our Touratech QV software. Emergency calls are transmitted in the same way with minimum time delay so that the rallye organisation can trigger an immediate rescue mission. In order to reduce the stress level during accidents, the receipt of an emergency call is re-confirmed so that the crew will know that help is underway.

The hardware has been adapted to the harsh environment of such an event. It has a compact and robust design and will work in a wide temperature range ( -40 - +70°C), so it would also be suitable for a Siberian winter expedition. The Transsiberia Rally starts on August, 02 in Moskow and will finish on August, 17 in Ulaanbaatar.
