Volkswagen Race Touareg: From the desert to living room.

The Volkswagen Race Touareg conquers the living room: The prototype heads for the slot-car tracks following its successful result at the Dakar Rally in January. Adults and children can enjoy rough Cross Country stages within their own homes and vie for fastest lap with the 1:32 scale Race Touareg (2005 model) and the double-lane race track "Master Track Raid".

With this so-called Race Touareg slot-car from Spanish manufacturer Ninco great attention was paid to ensure it reflected the original: Just like the 275 hp rally prototype, the model car is equipped with permanent four-wheel drive, an excellent suspension set-up and is available in the distinctive original blue design of Volkswagen Motorsport and its partners.

In addition to the electric-motor powered miniature Race Touareg, the winner of the 2005 FIA Cross Country Rally World Cup is already available as model car in various sizes: The 3-inch model (approx 7.5 cm, manufacturer: Norev) characterises the robust, well-priced toy car, while the miniature in classic 1:43 scale sets collectors’ hearts racing owing to the perfect proportions and finest detail (manufacturer: Minichamps).

The equally highly-detailed 1:24 scale Race Touareg model (manufacturer: Gartex) concludes the top-of-the-range models. All three versions are sold worldwide and can be purchased from every Volkswagen partner and via the Internet ( Specialist shops also have available a Race Touareg in kit form: With the so-called "Easykit” in 1:32 scale (manufacturer: Revell) hobby kit builders can create a faithful, plastic model complete with decals in half-an-hour.

In the autumn the current Volkswagen Race Touareg 2, with which South African Giniel de Villiers and his Swedish co-driver Tina Thörner finished second overall at the 2006 Dakar Rally in January, will roll as miniature onto handlers’ shelves. The stable 3-inch model (manufacturer: Norev) and two versions of the highly-detailed collectors model in 1:43 scale (manufacturer: Norev) will be available through the Volkswagen sales network. In future, the retail trade model range will start in the traditional HO-size 1:87 (manufacturer: Schuco) and will be rounded off by a very detailed collectors model in 1:18 scale, which is equipped with opening cowlings and doors, functioning dampers and steerable wheels (manufacturer: Norev).
