WSORR 2007: Crunch time for Ben Wandahsega in Crandon.

Ben got a horrible start and was only able to come out of the first corner in fifth at the beginning of the Saturday’s WSORR Round IX Super Truck race. Dave Waldvogel got the holeshot with Dan Baudoux, Don Williams, Keith Steele and Wandahsega in hot pursuit. From there, Steele was to able to make some moves up to second while Wandahsega was able to move up to fourth.

Ben noticed that Steele was having troubles getting through the starting line turn, which was holding Baudoux up. So on lap eight, Wandahega set them both up and made a pass from fourth to second. He was then able to focus on running down leader Waldvogel until the last lap when the camshaft broke on his Forest Co. Potawatomi/ Toyo Tires/Chevy. It was the first engine failure that Team Wandahsega has had during competition in over seven years. A few trucks had dropped out so Ben was credited with fifth place.

Round VII Results:

01) Dave Waldvogel
02) Kieth Steele
03) Dan Baudoux
04) Don Williams
05) Ben Wandahsega
06) Rick Hinman
07) Gary Gottchalk
08) Zane Roberts
09) Ken Hallgren

With a fresh powerplant, Sunday’s Round X action went much better for Ben and Team Wandahsega. Ben came off the starting line much stronger than the day before. The running order was Baudoux, Waldvogel and Wandahsega after the first lap and remained the same most of the race. On the last lap Ben was able to get by Waldvogel for the runner up position and more importantly the point lead in the Super Trucks division. It was Baudoux at the checkers followed by Wandahsega and Waldvogel to round out the podium.

Round X Results:

01) Dan Baudoux
02) Ben Wandahsega
03) Dave Waldvogel
04) Keith Steele
05) Ken Hallgren
06) Gary Gottchalk
07) Rick Hinman
08) Don Williams
09) Zane Roberts

Wandahsega’s engine failure on Saturday combined with Waldvogel’s win allowed Waldvogel to close the gap on Wandahsega’s eight point lead going into this weekend and overtake the points lead by one point after Saturday’s Round IX action. Ben however was able to retake the lead by beating out Waldvogel during Sunday’s Round X event. It’s crunch time for the Super Truck title with only one weekend left in the 2007 WSORR season. Without some rare circumstances the title will come down to Wandahsega and Waldvogel just as the point standings have been all season. The crew that is most prepared and the driver that performs the best will win the first ever WSORR Super Trucks title.

WSORR Super Truck point standings:

01) Ben Wandahsega-205
02) Dave Waldvogel-204
03) Don Williams-180
04) Dan Baudoux-172
05) Keith Steele-148
06) Ken Hallgreen-138
07) James Wrobleski-98
08) Jace Schubert-86
09) Gary Gottchalk-57
10) Rick Hinman-55
11) Zane Roberts-28.

The final two rounds of racing will take place at the Lucas Oil Speedway in Wheatland, MO on September 22nd and 23rd.
