WSORR: Ben Wandahsega pads point lead at Crandon

Consistency is always the key to a successful season. 2005 saw Ben Wandahsega finish on the podium round after round, which translated into a championship. 2006 was a year of misfortunes and just plain bad luck. Team Wandahsega started out this year not looking back and won WSORR rounds I & II in Owatonna (Minnesota, USA). Those wins showed Ben's versatility as they came on two completely different types of track conditions.

This weekend's Forest County Potawatomi Brush Run Races in Crandon, WI showcased the determination in Team Wandahsega that it takes to win championships. On Saturday's WSORR Round III Super Truck race, Ben and crew missed on the tire groove somewhat. The FCP/Toyo Tires Chevy couldn't get the traction needed coming out of the corners.

Wandahsega however was able to stay with leader Dave Waldvogel the whole race. With two laps to go it looked as though Wandahsega would make a run for the lead until the throttle stuck open going through the corner. Wandahsega, a veteran in off-road racing had to rely on his years of experience to get himself out of what could have been a disastrous situation. At the finish line Waldvogel held off Wandahsega by a truck length with Keith Steele rounding out the podium.

Sunday's Round IV action was more of the same. A different tire groove was tried but really didn't provide a better grip than Saturday's selection did. Even the finishing order at the checkers was the same as on Saturday. In the 14th annual running of the Forest County Potawatomi Chairman's Cup Race, Team Wandahsega finally got a better handle on the tire selection and setup. The FCP Chairman's Cup is a race that has pro 2WD and 4WD racers vs. Super Stock racers in a handicap-starting format.

The sportsman racers started in front on the crowd while the pro racers had to start at the original starting line, a straightaway behind. A 3rd different tire groove was selected and it made a huge difference as Ben ran as high as 4th at one point out running and staying with some of the best pro racers in the WSORR. In the end he was the highest finishing Super Truck racer and finished 6th overall. Team Wandahsega was very pleased with the ending results and how the truck worked. Next up for Team Wandahsega is Rounds V & VI of the World Series of Off-Road Racing in Ben's hometown of Bark River, MI on July 14th & 15th.
